Hi Folks, I am Oracle Application DBA & Oracle DB from past 10+ years and working FT with a retail organization. Initially, I enjoyed my carrier but slowly I found it to be monotonous with less growth. I am always looking for something where I can excel and grow. But being a DBA I think scope is limited. Always looking after databases ..doing same stuff from past 10 years + no visilibity. I am looking for some inputs regarding further growth and options. I am willing to do something new and I am good at that. I am 33 and I think I still have potential to go further.
I agree with transitioning your skills to the cloud. Would also suggest some data engineering / ETL so you are familiar with getting data off prem.
Cloud solutions as mentioned above. Or Move to a different job where you could do multiple database technologies plus Databases in Cloud, then move up to Archhtect roles. You need to be in a very agile environment. If you work on a very few applications over and over, it could be very monotonous. I am a DBA myself, with exactly the same numbers... 33 years and 10 yoe. Learn mysql, nosql technologies Cassandra, Mongodb, Hadoop yourself to keep yourself engaged and look for a new job.
Cloud solutions architect with a focus on data platform? (Azure SQL, Aws Aurora, Redshift, DynamoDB and the like)
