I am a full stack developer with a focus on enterprise software and automation (which means my UIs are 100% Twitter bootstrap and utilitarian). I want to start building software for business not in the tech sector, like construction, manufacturing, and medical, that automates outdated processes and ultimately brings huge value to the company. I have about 5yrs of professional software engineering experience. What are some tips to get started down this path and ultimately land my first customer?
This is something that I love to learn as well.
Most businesses like to configure/customize purchased software packages. Still lot of money in the work they have but may not be building anew applications.

I’d suggest pick an industry to target and go meet ppl in it (trade conventions, meet ups,....) and talk to ppl about what kinds of problems they have that they’d pay a consultant for. Or hit ppl up on linked in and let them know what you want - to get rich AF.
Why not invest in your full time job? It’s better ROI IMO.
I believe there are opportunities to build programs that will solve the same problem at multiple companies. Thus I believe a program can be sold or licensed out to multiple companies. I want to be rich AF (100 mil network is my goal) and I suspect this is one viable approach for me. I'm fairly creative and am confident that if I get involved with other industries for a few years I will start to have ideas of my own that only an industry insider could conceive of. Which could turn into a small business or startup.
