So how do I tell my manager that I'm gonna quit Amazon? Any tips? Anything helpful I should read? Anything I should be prepared for?
Tell them you just learned about the 14th amendment so you refuse to be a slave anymore.

Slaves donât get paid and canât quit. Donât trivialize the experience of actual slaves.
Just drop a mail dude. Hello (manager's name) I have decided to continue my career outside Amazon. Please consider this as my formal resignation and today as start of notice period. It has been a pleasure working with you and the team. Thank you for all your support and guidance during my tenure. Thanks (your name)
Yeah but something sensitive like quiting Amazon should be done in person right? No?
Well I have done this 3 times before in Faang and outside. Best way is to drop a mail. Why resignation would be sensitive? It is business as usual. People come and go all the time. Your manager is a grown up person. Don't take this seriously. Just drop a mail.
Take him out for a coffee, tell him he was great managerand you have decided to move on, professional, kind and sensitive with personal touch. It might be business as usual but people remember how you treat them, connections are golden worth!
Thank you. That's a great idea.
Mail is a bad idea I feel. Be a man(or woman) and talk to your manager 1:1. Thank him/her for everything and say that you got another opportunity that's more interesting to the work that you seek (inspired from typical recruiter rejection email) Be professional and convey your last day.
Edited for better clarity. Thanks Cloudera
I once told my manager in a previous workplace that I am leaving and he asked me if there are open positions there he could get referred to đ This is the time youâ be the boss, so just relax.
Donât do mail, as an SDM I feel this would be the same as if a manager delivered formal performance coaching news over the email. Also, you might be asked where youâre going. If youâre moving to a direct competitor, your manager might be pushed to walk you out on a spot. Not doing so requires fairly high business and HR approval. If you choose not to tell where youâre going, hr policy is to assume the worst.
Don't email. set up time. Be professional. If you have been on good terms, share what you are comfortable sharing about why you are leaving, experiences that you enjoyed etc.
If you like a folk, go and have a chat.. tell him, that you think you found something that will help you grow in the direction in both personal and prof way apart from Financial. Tell him to provide his advices, and if he is a good guy, he will tell you to go ahead.. I have had my friend.. my only friend as manager at my first job.. it was hard leaving him.. and I had done exactly that way.. not to mention he forwarded his resume 3 months later to see if I could help him transistion too
Do you like this manager? Depending on that thereâs a wide spectrum of ways to do this.
Yes. This manager actively figures out ways to help me with work.
