Was working on a project that required setting up infrastructure. When I started, took so many shortcuts and was finally able to build a cfn template that worked. I was not satisfied by the process, but I succumbed to deadlines. Once the project got done I spent 3 hours everyday of my personal time for a month and gained so much insight on what the best practices are and how to really build cfn templates and stacks, the gotchas and what the implications are. Amazon doesnt give time to learn something truly, have been building production quality projects with so much missing information about the right way to do things. This sucks. Anyone feels like this?
Cloud formation is ugly. Use terraform instead
I've worked on cloudformation team for 3 months. I only understood the high level before I left. Most of it was still hazy even after being on the actual cloudformation team.
How was the wlb etc?
I like Cloudformation, a lot nicer if you use a dsl like troposphere or cfndsl. Keep working hard Cloudformation team!
So this what they say about Amazon being stressful with deadlines? So you really can't say oh let me spend a week researching this fully before doing the project? Damn
All the time. Many folks I work with also don't know in depth of any of the technologies we work with.
At first I like cloudformation,... until I found terraform. Then I when I started working at Amazon, knowing how much better it could be was the worst.
I am in the same boat you were. Could you please share what spices did you use to learn cloudformation?
Can you share your learnings and materials you used?
Terraform is nicer
