Hello, I have been struggling with depression for several years now. On medication but it only helps me stay functional, nothing more. I struggle with staying motivated to do basic chores, getting out of bed, socializing - you get the drift. I do not smoke or drink alcohol. A friend suggested I try marijuana a couple of years ago, but I declined; should I become addicted, there is one more crisis to manage. Couple of days ago another friend made the same suggestion, only this time I caved in and said yes. I had a powerful experience! I only took a single puff, and the rest was second hand smoke. Within minutes, and over the next couple of hours, I completed chores that had been on my list for months. I will be letting my psychiatrist know in our next meeting and asking for their thoughts. I also want to hear from others about my concerns and questions. a. I am very worried about getting addicted or going to work stoned. I can not afford my life to get any more complicated. b. I am not accustomed to smoking, I ended up coughing quite a bit. I read there are oils (a drop of two under the tongue), gummies, topical creams too. I don’t want to eat edibles - I have a tendency to eat out of boredom and the edibles would likely not last more than a few hours. Are there marijuana pills? c. I read the industry is not regulated and quality varies. Are there brands that can be tested? d. Are there doctors who can advice on dosage. My psychiatrist is with Kaiser and I am not sure she can help with prescription. e. If marijuana purchases can be linked to my ID, is there a chance my immigration prospects will be impacted? f. Given the burst of productivity I experienced, I am wondering if my lack of motivation can be cured by say Adderal, rather than marijuana. Pros: can be prescribed and it’s use monitored by my doctor. Marijuana offers me hope. It could be a game changer. I just want to be able to do normal things again - being able to cook breakfast when someone is visiting, for example. However I want to think through this before using again. Thank you for your time!
I can't believe your proposed plan to avoid THC dependency is to take amphetamines instead. It's like using cocaine to avoid getting addicted to coffee. PS: have you looked into CBD, the other, milder major active ingredient in marijuana? Sounds like something for you.
Thank you. I read Adderal is addicting, like my anti-depressants it would need to be “tapered down” or there are withdrawal symptoms. Are there any other cons? I am not familiar with CBD. I’ll read more.
Yes, this! Research CBD! Good alternative imo
Try a whole herb vaporizer instead of smoking, less coughing but a similar high. Get 18:1 CBD to THC drops before trying edibles, it can help if you get too high.
I personally wouldn't trust your doctor so blindly. Take into account your therapist, your doctor, and your personal research equally. Don't put anything in your body that you don't understand how it will metabolize or store. That said weed + psychadeclics every couple months is by far the best thing I've found to keep anxiety/depression/etc at bay.
a) marijuana is not physically addictive. But it can be psychologically. b) yes there are pills. You can get them at any dispensary c) yes the regulation is really poor right now. Look up details of each brand. d) this is really some to experiment with e) possibly if the info leaked. Consider asking your doctor to not record this info and not getting the medical card. Not letting the store scan your id. f) Possibly. Adderall works in very different ways. Can you tell us more about your problems? Marijuana is unlikely a long term fix to motivation problems. What medications have you tried?
Jesus Christ! Please smoke a lot more so you can calm the fuck down with all the questions. Anxiety is strong in you, smoke up!
Chemical relief is fun, but the longer you have it the more downsides it brings. First you feel excitement, next time relief becomes lower and so on. At the same time your usual life becomes worse and worse. The end result is not having the relief while having your life between intakes totally ruined. This is how it works with any drug, including alcohol. You've been warned, take your responsibility now. The healthy options to make your life better are: sport, gf, move to another city, change job, cure your illness, get a hobby, etc.
Which anti depressants are you taking?
Oh I see. I have tried that years ago when I was going through some things in life. It really messed me up and made things worse so I gradually weened myself off.
Get some friends
It’s not infeasible to stay on THC and or CBD for prolonged periods of time. I know a few people who do that and are successful in their careers (they also become desensitized to the psychotic effects). CBD seems to be more acceptable for long term use, but the data is limited; it does not cause the psychosis that THC does, but also may not be as effective for certain conditions (mixing CBD with a little THC appears to be quite effective). You will have to experiment.
Mary Jane is not physically addictive (you won’t go through withdrawals) and you can’t overdose. Smoking is the best high. Everyone coughs a lot the first time as your lungs are not accustomed to inhaling. Edibles do not provide the same type of high, maybe you’ll like it, but I personally don’t enjoy the edibles nearly as much as smoking. I like the vape pens and damn they’re strong! Each weed strain is a bit different. Leafly is a good app with reviews about the effects for the most popular strains. Use it occasionally. IMO, it doesn’t help you become a better engineer. Also, just wait until you have sex on a marijuana high. Best marathon sex ever!
Be very careful with the vape pens. I am very used to smoking joints and went onto smoking using vale pen thinking it was the same. WRONG! two strong puffs and that mfker hit me like a truck! I was a goner for 3 hrs straight! Since then I have adjusted to the dose, but definitely be very careful with them. Start out with small SINGLE puff.
I think the beginner vape pens (the ones without any settings) are much friendlier. I have to take 10-20 secs to get desired effects.
