True that Waymo employees get Waymo stock instead of GSUs?

I heard this but it doesn't make sense to me. Why give Waymo stock instead of Alphabet, which is already publicly tradeable?

Common sense doesn't apply in this case. Waymo is under Alphabet. Google is also under Alphabet. Google gives employees Alphabet RSUs. Waymo could do the same.

But then that defeats the purpose of Alphabet.

Your existing GSUs vest on schedule while new awards are Waymo. It's best of both worlds

Bc it probably gives them the ability to pay more like a start up... Ie higher upside if waymo really takes off or gets spun out
