Uber future

I know that Uber's stock has been pretty shit ever since the start, can't blame market because of the amount of cash burn each Q, and profits so far sighted. Personally made decent money today because of early puts on U. However, i feel like the company does have a future, a solid one with whole bunch of side gigs they're attempting to be profitable. And the way everyone's jumping on them is despicable. FYI, Facebook back in 2012 was in similar situation and had same exact stories published for them. Look at the comments to see what I'm talking about.

I understand that the model of companies are very different. Facebook sold all our data to every douche in the world and made money. Uber on the other hand, can't not pay their drivers. But I still think they have a formidable userbase and good tech available to them to solve problems.

A social network encourages loyalty because everyone is on it. As soon as someone makes a cheaper service than Uber people will bail the fuck out. There is no loyalty in their customer base to drive price up

True. But there aren't many competitors in the market. And not many will be able to beat their price point. How many small shops do you see beating Amazon prices for products? It's a 2 horse race as of now in USA, and maybe 3 in Europe and India. But prices can't be astronomically different within the services to be viable financially. Uber has an upper hand for starting early.

Starting early means nothing, they have to continue pissing away billions to be price leaders to keep their base and growth. As soon as they try to jack prices up to try and be profitable or take more from drivers, people will leave

But their rides business is already profitable. Some 500 m profit in q3 as per their earnings report. Their investments in scooters, freight, eats, atg etc are not making money which is understandable since they're pretty new and market is still adjusting to the needs of these things. Some of these might work, some might not. Uber as we've seen, will bin the unsuccessful ones at the absolute need and continue.

The main problems with uber is
    1) they reply too much on human capital (drivers) whereas fb's cost is only eng
    2) they got regulators up their ass too early in the game. Fb didn't have to deal with regulators until it was very mature

Sure uber has its hands in many pots but afaik those pots also rely on human drivers and hence suffer the same issues as their main product. Their cost is too high and too variable without autonomous vehicles
