I was recently moved to a new team as part of restructuring within the organization. Ever since the move I have been feeling really low and borderline depressed. The reasons contributing to my distress are: 1. I don’t really like the work that I will be doing. 2. The team is too big and everything is all over the place. Absolute lack of structure. 3. I sometimes feel I am not smart enough to compete with so many people, many of them have way more experience than me. I have never had issues in the past with completing my goals and delivering assigned tasks but on this team I don’t feel like my usual confident self. I don’t know what’s the best way to cope up with my situation. I am considering to start doing leetcode and apply for internal transfer. My fear with that is since as per the company policy I need to inform my new manager about me trying for internal switch, what if I don’t find a good team internally. In that case I would have messed up my chances with my current manager too. Feeling so lost at the moment. :/
why you don't like the current work?
Same situation. New job. Cliquish group. I feel like throwing in the towel too. Very unstructured and home baked so I need to lean on them. And I hate that!
I have zero motivation to come to work. Nothing to look forward to. It’s getting really depressing.
What should we do? I have told myself to sit it out through the holidays. It's only been a month, maybe I am making snap judgments? Perhaps we should give it 3 months we come to a conclusion?
Ping first, only apply once things are setup with your new manager
What do you mean by “once things are setup with new manager” ?
when you don’t like your job, don’t just try to do it because it’s your job. Try to learn to like it. Instead of viewing the re-org as lacking structure, think of it as having room for improvement, hence, offering you many opportunities to add value.
How long have you been on the new team? Usually takes some time to adjust.
It’s been over a month
