Received an offer from a 2nd/3rd-tier unicorn company. I feel the offer is too good to pass on comp-wise, but I keep debating if I should keep pursuing opportunities with FAANG + uber/lyft/airbnb/etc these bigger names. I am just at the early stage of my career, so feel like having a big name on my resume might be more helpful in the long term? Job function: Business analytics (non-DS) TC: 160K base + 50K stock options/year YOE: 2 Location: Bay area Assume everything else (manager, team & culture fit, learning opps, growth path) is all good. The only variable I am looking at here is the company name. Should I take it? Appreciate any inputs!
Take it dude
Depending on the company, I would be cautious and do some due diligence as to why the offer is so high given your 2 yoe. Not a commentary on your abilities, but just do some homework. What shape is the team in? Is the team / company in a desperate position? If thatās something youāre still ok with then by all means take the offer. But situations like these _can_ be a canary in a coal mine sometimes.
Good point and thanks for looking out! Company and team are in good spot actually. Theyāre growing fast and have attracted a lot of top-level talents from FAANG. So Iāve asked, apparently I killed the interviews, and I got lucky in the negotiation.
I always evaluate job offers on the 1-2 year horizon for pay and without regard to how it will look on my resume. I've never found the latter to matter, and compensation/market rates change way too much to worry about a longer term than that.
Makes sense. Thanks for the perspective!
Good comp startup name?
OP what is your skill set? Excel sql tableau? Do you regular use python/r for your job / interview?
Isnāt this exceptional TC for Business Analyst 2 YOE? (Generally curious.. assumed it would be ~50k less)
Yes it is...lol. thatās why Iām torn. Feel like itās impossible to get this level of TC anywhere else.
