Not a techie here, do you agree that tech job interviews starts with a lot of unpaid homework, in fact more than any other industry even though there is shortage of skilled workers. Thoughts??
The only time I will accept homework is: 1. If they pay me equivalent of number of hours put in AND 2. The work is something I want to do and applies to what I'm doing at current work too. Not bullshit work that I can't learn anything from AND 3. The company doesn't ask me any more white board problems in an on-site later. They hire slow, people leave fast, the product will probably crash and that's when execs will realize the piece of shit process they set up.
I've never had any unpaid homework. Are you referring to take-home coding assignments?
Codehomework before even they interview you.
I never do those. I'll just pass on the interview is it's a requirement. The more senior you get, the less you have to put up with that stuff
Only shitty companies do that. For example Tesla.
The Tesla problem they sent me was very heavy. Ended up passing on the interview cycle.
It's not unpaid.. you will get at least 5 to 20% raise when you switch.. consider that as investment that will grow fruits later in your career..
Or you get no feedback after submitting the fruits of your labor.
You have lower self esteem Amazon. You are more valuable than you think. Don't be a pushover. Oh wait, you value money more than anything else!!!! Never mind!!! DOI your unpaid homework.
