We will be visiting LA for the first time with kids during spring break for 4 days. Not keen on Disneyland/Universal. We plan to be staying in Santa Monica area (Leows/Marriott). Please recommend places to see/eat (vegan). If we decide to drive down to San Diego, is the zoo/safari park worth it? Can both be done in a day? TIA.
- I’d say it’s not worth it to drive to Dan Diego for the day. It’ll take you 2+ hours each way to get there (depending on day and time of travel) which will exhaust you and family.
How old are the kids? There’s lots to do depending on the age:
*sunset horse ride through the Hollywood hills
*rent kayaks and paddle down LA river near Griffith park
*hike in any number of the hills and canyons
*there are amazing museums and art galleries to check out
*see what’s playing at local theaters: Pantages, Ahmanson, etc
*they have amazing improv shows. Find a family friendly one at Second City, UCB, the Groundlings
*google for scavenger hunts - great way to explore the cities and neighborhoods
*take a tour bus and just see all the sights on your first day and then determine which ones you want to hit for your remaining days
*for vegan food, you must try Gracias Madre. Absolutely amazing food and a beautiful restaurant.
