Parents are visiting from India. They have their Indian drivers license thats in english. Can’t find out for sure online if they need a IDP (international driving permit) or not to be able to drive my car in WA. Theres arguments both ways in responses on Quora. Can someone please point me to and authoritative source? The DMV phone line has an endless wait. And how about California and crossing the border into BC Canada with just the Indian drivers license and passport, no IDP?
Anyone know about Californi/BC and crossing the road border?
They can drive in wa , with an Indian license for upto 1 year since the point of entry in wa. I am doing that rn ; have showed my Indian license to the cops when I got pulled over and they we're completely fine with it.
They are fine in BC as well with just their current valid license. Depending on length of their visit, might need to get Visa to visit, but y'all should work that out before they go: https://www.welcomebc.ca/Start-Your-Life-in-B-C/Daily-Life/Driving-in-B-C California will be fine as well. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/pubs/hdbk/ca_dl I don't have Google fu. This stuff seemed easy to find. 😊
Your Google foo is a lot better than mine. Thanks for these links!
For WA they are good to go. https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/docs/driverguide-en.pdf
TYVM!
