  • Walmart is very team dependent. Although I think they’ll low ball you. Every day low costs as they say.

You may be joking, but I have heard that Walmart is even cheaper than Amazon on the tech side.

      Aug 16
    • BYTON cJKu57
Hunh? Asking me or @walmart? They mentioned mass exodus.

Anyway Albertsons TC is always gonna higher. Even Bezzos doesn’t compare to Albertsons interns.

Stay out of Merchant technology org. Full of politics and is a joke of an org. Most good engineers left or are about to leave. Management promotions happen every 6 months to a year. Full of tech debt and nobody has a clue. There may be other orgs that are better, esp in platform
    Aug 15 9
    • Walmart peachpuff
Yes. Part of merchant tech too. Same feeling. The amount of tech debt is staggering. Really trying to get out of here.

I agree with the desk part but as everywhere you have both types of camp. If you stay focus then a lot can be done there.

Staff base 165k-200k, 60k every year vesting over 4 years, 20%bonus. So min 250k to max 300k is what you can expect.

  • Be careful when you join Walmart. You won’t get your own desk and you get a floating desk. Anyone can take your desk if you’re not there. It’s a lean company but I was disappointed when I saw this happening. Walmart build stores left and right but employees don’t have a desk. If you come at 10:30 you don’t have a place to park. Not enough parking anywhere. I came to work after a doctor’s appt at 10:30 and even valet parking is completely full. I had to circle around and found one space at a neighboring company.

Founders make $4m a minute but employees don’t even have their own desk for work. What does that tell me? It makes me feel terrible and apparently Walmart is good at this. This woman is breastfeeding and she has to lug around her breast pump from home/work because she can’t even leave it at her own desk. The Mother’s room is often occupied and hard to get a space.

This is very true. Everyday is a struggle, first to find parking somewhere on the street and next is finding a desk. Every single day

  • Culture = everyone is Indian. If you’re Caucasian or Asian you will feel very out of place because Indians only want to interact with other Indians

Thr are people from south india and north thats diversity ☺

  • Why is everyone saying so bad things about merchant technology? I am going to join that team in a few weeks and have a few offers on the table. Thus, asking a serious question here.
    Aug 25 5
    • Walmart QEuQ21
Because the culture is terrible in MT, mostly kiss ass and manage up. Tech debt is high, no diversity in thought or people. Most of the great engineers left and the remaining ones will leave soon. Rewards and promotions are mostly for management. No parking nor a basic working desk with chair. Issues are thrown at you without context. Please consider other offers if you have any

Dont make the mistake of joining u will regret STOP
      Aug 26
    • Google Otsuki
Listen to them. Don’t join you are going to get screwed there and you will regret it. My friends in MT have left and are on their way out . After listening to their war cry, I am trying to save your friends and family from your war cry which will begin as you join.

I am coming from a different org (Legal), but WalMart gave me a shockingly low offer for comp (which I turned down). Eng might be different, but I was really taken aback at how cheap they were on my end.

Really? How you can be in MV with TC of just $250k? I have heard few homeless people in Palo Alto have better TC.

Was a staff engineer @ Walmart previously. My total comp when I left was about $325k. Base pay was $198k. Bonus and refreshers are higher than 20% target if you are a top 20% performer

  • Walmart / Eng Wycx15
As always it depends on the team 250k is good in good team or even 300k is bad in bad team ... find out the team ... otherwise u will regret
