Man, living in Seattle is getting harder and harder. This depressing weather is shit! I am not sure how much more I can take, been here 5 years. Can’t afford living in SF due to stupid housing prices and anywhere else like LA and San Diego doesn’t pay well. How do you guys cope with this weather depression? I travel often to sun destinations but when I come back this weather hits me. I do go to gym often as well.

Literally never understood this. It's better than any other climate near our latitude in the country. Would you rather be drudging through snow of Chicago, Boston, New York, etc?

If you need a tropical life, move south. This isn't rocket science.

Bitter cold. De-icing my windows. And driveway. And walkway. Snow blowing. Black coats. Non-smiling faces. Hell frozen over.

I'll take hell 2.0 where I can travel 1 hr and enjoy the snow on greatly superior mountains.

If you hate cold or gray that much, move south.

I tried meetup.com groups but I found them pretty uninspiring for camping because of the backcountry permit process. For example, there was a Mt whitney one where almost no one had a permit and the demand was crazy high. To get back country permits means choosing someplace at least 3 hours from SF excluding Yosemite. Mendocino National Park and Lassen are easy to get permits for.

I don’t have a car myself and am dependent on others or have to rent.

Yes, this. Why can’t you hike early? You mean in the dark? I’ve been doing 8am hikes and love it. Snowshoeing is also fun. You have to get out of the house and find activities to do.

Life is not black and white, when there is a family involved, you gotta find solutions instead of erasing the problem. I would appreciate if you didn’t project your personal opinion to the question and order people to move because they are not on the same page as you

Well, you can try to change the weather, if you think that has a chance of working. Or you can grow up and stop repeating the idiotic mantra that you are depressed because of the weather. It does not get much lazier than that.

Just move to SF. Who cares if you own a house if you die young and live a miserable life in Seattle? Your whole family will be happier.

I left Seattle for SF 6 years ago with $10k to my name, with no job, and made it work. I found work in 1 week. You will find something. Your increased quality of life, life expectancy, and lack of diseases (Alzheimer's, cancer, multiple sclerosis rates are all much higher in Seattle, perhaps because it is the world's cloudiest city - more than any city in Europe or Asia), energy levels, fun, and mood will thank you later.

Your family won’t necessarily be happier. Tight finances have a habit of wrecking havoc on cohesiveness.

There's more to your depression and the weather likely has little to do with it

Alternatively, you might be suffering from seasonal affective disorder atop of depression. Consider seeing a mental health professional.

It’s not the weather, I’ve been here for a few decades and could not be happier. Figure out what is wrong with your life and fix it instead of taking the easy way and blaming the clouds.

FB pays same wages in SF and SEA. Period. So does Lyft. And Uber. Your anecdote is just that.

Well any arguement that ends in "period" must be true lol. Surely when a company wants you to relocate they find a way to make it happen. Companies don't have rules, period ;) Jokes aside black swan me if you want, just suggesting op take a look. If it works it works, if op cannot get an offer that makes sense minimal time wasted.

you can get 3 bedroom townhome in north san jose for 1.05 M and work in facebook. its opposite direction of traffic. 15-20 miles commute pretty good.

bay area prices are crazy but be agile and get smaller house. i still love this place.
no kids yet so might change my opinion after that.

your post demotivated me. otherwise was considering seattle move in next 3 years for better schooling

This winter is not bad at all, a bit colder but sunnier. But usually it's worse, you get weeks without seeing sun, drizzles every day. A year or two back it rained for 70hrs straight. It also gets dark in winters because of latitude and clouds. On the other hand, it doesn't get that cold, rarely we see below freezing temperatures. If you can take trips to sunny places it can be fine. Summers are gorgeous but short.
