Doesn't have to be tech. Can be anything. I know IB is pretty good. Outside finance I am assuming top tech companies would be the best. Oil might be good too, I don't know. Also, which department? I am guessing at a tech company eng directors are best. Finance, legal and especially HR would be lower paying.

Director can mean many thing. Director at Google is 800k but director at startup is probably closer to 300k. Director for non tech probably also near 300k
Director in oil and gas could mean anything from 200k to multi million. Titles don't mean shit
Director level at tech can be 700k+
So basically tech is way beyond anything else
If you are a director of neurosurgery, you'd be sitting on a couple million a year.
