New PM here working in New Orleans at what feels like one of the only two startups in town. will my experience here carry any weight in a larger tech market, like SV, WA, NY, Austin or Boston?
Probably not, but donβt let that be an impediment. You might just have to work a bit harder to get a phone screen. Brand name only really gets you a phone call.
Are you a new grad PM?
I've been out of school a few years and have had a few jobs before becoming a PM. I'm mostly worried about two effects: 1) perception and 2) divergent evolution of PM as a position between markets, especially one as relatively isolated as mine
Please do not come to Silicon Valley. The Bay Area is extremely expensive and you will never save enough to buy a home here. Go to Portland, Denver, Austin, or Phoenix. What matters is your domain experience as a PM. List out all the technologies you are comfortable with because a large part about being a PM is the ability to interact with engineers
