I am going to have a 6 months paternity leave in my company. I may not be totally busy as I am going to get some help from my in-laws. I may definitely have some free time everyday for 6 months. I am planning to take care of my health and fitness as a top priority. This is probably my one time in a life opportunity to have a 6 months break from work. Hoping to hear some good suggestions on what good and useful things I can do in 6 months that will help me in our life? I can think of following in priority order Gym and fitness Fix health problems Read some good technical articles I am not leetcoding 😀
Salesforce is so awesome they give this to guys too haha
I would still code, probably a side project. I would code afrer riding a bike somewhere.
Yeah, I though about that. But I don’t want spend more time on computer again. I’ll end up spending all my day 😀
Travel a lot (yes, with baby). Many people stay put at home once they have a baby. But being locked in adds to the stress. You can do short local trips from about 2 months. And do longer road trips or fly from about 3 months. I traveled a lot and wish I traveled more.
Thanks. I would definitely consider this
All paid 6 months paternity?!? What the fcuk!
Maybe you should take care of the baby and your spouse since it's a paternity leave not a self improvement time for gym and fitness and reading
Maybe you shouldn't troll, the worlds not a perfect fucking place.
So an opinion of a woman who is encouraging to participate in parenting is trolling because it's less desirable to your ears...
Go to the gym, baby can be your spotter.
Yeah babies need to pull their weight around. Like they get free shelter, food, clothes in return spotting is the minimum they can do.
OP: Let me first congratulate you for being in a state where you can say, “i have this free time and what do I do with it!”. I mean you are not compelled to change jobs and get sucked into leetcode - that’s a positive thing going on for you. Allocate some cycles for “in-law management”. Ahem!😜 I have always dreamt about this kind of a break. Here is what I would do: “Fix health - allocate some big quantity of cycles to exercise, develop good diet and a routine. Basically use this time to get into that good rythm and develop habits to maintain it.” I also have this crazy idea of writing a novel. Well, some day it might happen. One piece of advice - just pick one thing and laser focus on it. If you have any time left after, just chill - drink-netflix (and/or amzn prime) I both envy you as well as feel happy for u 😃
Thanks inode. That’s a good advice. Maybe I should focus on one thing and make that as a habit instead of trying many things. 6 months is a good enough time to convert something into a habit.
Op pick an event 6 months out like a half marathon, triathlon or iron man or CrossFit regional And than crush it in the next 6 months. The beautiful thing is after 6 months it may be a little tough to continue at the same level but you will probably have the endurance, discipline and community to help you keep going.
Why can't you fix health issues while working?
Wow they give 6 months for dads?
Yes, you can take max up to 6 months
So 2 unpaid?
