I have a friend who is in this business. She is crazy about the org called amway, which selling different products. She needs to get ppl on her team and those will also expand their network the same way. She always tell me that this is the way to financial freedom. She often comes to the so called leadership conferences on her own money. She buys a bunch of books on leadership, selling and consider some couples in the field like idols. I have a hard time understand these ppl and feel like it is scam and ppl in the network get the illusion about their future. Surprisingly this kind of network grow fast and seems contagious. Thoughts?
It's called a pyramid scheme
It's a scam. Conclusion comes from a friend who studied it in great detail as part of his math graduate research at epic-ivy-league-school.
These guys have shit products and often tell uneducated people that they are "running your own business" basically its about selling based on relationships to your friends and family. These types of models are outdated and dont work long term
True. I dont believe that well educated ppl ever believe in it. They build up idols and shows like movie stars. My friend is a pharmacist and has been active member for 6 months now. Not sure what cool aid they gave to her but she seems a believer :(
Often the educated people who do they are doing it because they are greedy about money and know they can convince people dumber than them to join. People have targeted me and i went to one of their events i am familiar with how they operate
"Do you know Amway?" This is a famous joke in China on MLM scams people
It sounds ok, got a pitch last year. I don't want to ruin my relationship with my friends for supplemental income.
This is tragic. See if you can convince her to stop, but good luck.
She wants to eliminate me ("unfriend" ) as I dont have the same "mindset" of the ppl who are at the level she wants to become in life :D.
It seems to be advertised to those who are emotionally weak. Those that didn’t accomplish much in life but are looking for an easy way to make money and be their own boss. Simultaneously they destroy their immediate friend and family circles. Sad.
This is 2018. How is Amway still not synonymous with MLM? Next you're going to tell me she got into USANA and Cutco at the same time.
What are USANA and Cutco? Just lazy binging these BS :)
They prey on insecure people and get them to join. They give them false hope that they can change their life with this pyramid scheme nonsense. It’s sad that your friend got roped into this.
My friend is a pharmacist, so she should be more stable and secure than many ppl in the US. Looks like they drugged her somehow
It's a scam. One of my buddies contacted me and said to join him at a "conference" at such and such a date and time, he didn't give any name or other on what it was going to be. I trusted the guy enough to show up. Figured out what was going on pretty fast after getting there, but what the hell, I was there already - how bad could it be right? I was curious as to how these things worked and had some time to kill, so I decided to just roll with it. Among the things I saw: - Chatted with the guy sitting next to me before this started. He was dumb enough to think that movie theater "4D" with the water sprays and moving chairs and shit was the real logical progression of 3D. I still have a hard time believing it and wonder if I misunderstood him. - according to the speaker up on stage, the real pyramid schemes are regular businesses. Because there's a CEO at the top and the further down the hierarchy you go, the more people there are. - "don't look us up on google - online reviews are fake" - marketing marketing marketing. Any less subtle and the message would have to be delivered with a sledgehammer. - you think the rat race in tech is bad? You ain't seen shit. MLM you have a level depending on what sales you make. The crowd oohs and ahhs at the triple-diamonds. It's very culty. - at that point I had seen enough. The guy guarding the door tried to stop me from walking out and ordered me to sit back down so I could finish watching the presentation. After being polite and his still refusing to let me through, I told him to allow me to exit if he didn't want me to cause a scene. If you want to be enlightened as to how it all works, go to a meetup. Be amazed by the fact that it's just such weird behavior that it's most likely completely out of place with everything else you've seen. And then die a little inside when you realize people fall for them all the time, and these schemes are so well known because they actually work - for the people who joined the pyramid early, that is. I was in Orlando a few months later and drove past the Amway center there. It's a stadium. The guy who created it (Richard Devos) apparently has $5.1B to his name.
I might have to check one of these things out. Fascinating.

Pyramid scheme. MLM . It's a Scam. Stay away. Iffffff you even end up making some money, it'll be at the expense of all your friends
Yeah I think so too. Just a waste of time and money, and I will never participate. Just dont know how to talk my friend out of it. She seems to be very passionate about it and thinks it is her life goal. Crazy!!!
John Oliver made a great video on it. Check it out
