Do folks actually have a decent work life balance? Do people take the one year maternity/paternity leave? How is the design team?
Netflix and chill
Be warned. Netflix thinks of you are a sports player, if you dont perform you get benched. Which is good and bad
This is the same way everyone treats employees, we just don't hide it behind flowery language. I suppose if you want to rest and vest it's not the right place because there's no vesting schedule on anything, it's all immediate vest.
Yes, some take a year but most get bored. I took 10 weeks and then every Friday off for the next 9 months for my paternity leave. I have great wlb but I have had a very busy year about 6 years ago where I worked about 55 hours a week. Didnโt have a great manager at the time but he was let go once his boss realized this.
There are a few different design teams here, and some designers scattered throughout various engineering orgs as well. Iโve met several that have been here for years, and a few that have been ready to leave shortly after coming. You can expect a lot of ownership over your projects, which can be good and bad for personal growth, since you often get to make a lot of decisions and talk at length to stakeholders about them, but other designers can lack the time and context to collaborate and give feedback.
How good Netflix offices are? Is it cheap noisy open space planning or something better?
DM me, I'll give you lunch and a tour :)
@fs92, nice! #alwaysbeclosing
Yes, there's good balance. I have seen several people take 8 or 9 months of parental leave. I heard a couple are doing a year right now. I personally took 4 months and will take more next time. Most people get kinda restless sitting at home after a few months, so I expect the average to go up but not to a year. I can't speak for the design team, unfortunately, but they never look unhappy when I walk by :) the space they have is awesome, it's set up for collaboration in a free cool ways.
