So I am on F1 OPT STEM extension now. And wonder which software I should use to file tax return given I have Health saving account and have worked for two different companies in two different states last year. Are there any people in the same situation 😂 ? Which software do you use to file tax return?
Credit karma tax?
Didn’t work well for me. Choked on ESPP / capital gains aspects.
Folks on F1 OPT can’t and shouldn’t file taxes through Turbotax. Well technically you can but it’s not allowed, since Turbotax doesn’t have 1099NR form which is needed by F1 people. I did the mistake of doing so, and now will have to file for amendment. Try Sprintax - the only recommendation I know of for F1 OPT folks.
Or taxact
Several years ago when I was on opt i got cintax. Not sure if it's still around !
Tax act
Have a side gig for tax benefits. Hrblock
Sprintax is one option. If you have spent 5 calendar years in the US, you're considered a resident and can use TurboTax.
credit karma tax is very good and free. fuck turbo tax they bad. read about their lobbying efforts against easy tax processess
Even credit karma doesn’t support 1040NR
Suposedly turbo tax is the best.. but that is only true because the others are too bad. I'm not impressed with what TurboTax provides for the money..
I found another one 1040nra.com not sure how it compares to the rest
That’s pretty straightforward. TurboTax is fine. They’ll charge you 70 bucks or so probably but it’s pretty quick. Edit: never mind, apparently that’s not available for F1 OPT. FWIW your taxes sound straightforward to me other than that aspect.
F1 opt people can’t file taxes through Turbotax.
