tc - 130k yoe-14 yrs Moved to US 1 yr back. Started doing LC 5 months back - ~280 (200~ easy -80 medium) Interviewed in boston based startup Got offered 220k TC (170 base - 15% bonus - 10k cash bonus (health insurance deal) - 20k joining bonus) What do i do, continue prepairing or take the offer. I can continue prepairing and hopefully land a FAANGM or unicorn, but declining 70% jump is hard
Join and work for 6 months then switch to fang with 300k TC.
You'd be insane to pass that up unless you expect the startup to die overnight.
Go for it!!!
Take the offer. Then keep leetcoding
Definitely take it. Google and Facebook will be still be there next year or the year after.
I was in the similar dilemma. If you like the job profile and see career growth, you should take it. There is no guarantee you will like the offer in FAANGM or even you will get significantly more TC compared to this offer. 70% jump in TC is not extremely common even if you are severely underpaid at current job which is not very possible. Congrats !
Thanks. Being at 14yoe, I am also thinking of atleast having brand name on cv for future proofing the career. Also being underpaid helps in preparation drive/focus :) But i agree to all your points.
TC is not everything. With the TC offered, they may want you to commit code anytime between 5:00 AM and 4:00 AM, because time to completion matters most. Think about WLB before making a move with H1-B. Does your wife work? Do you have other sources of income? Great risks come with greater rewards but even greater responsibilities.
An ex-colleague works here. As per him wlb is good. He joined the place after burning out at Amazon and does not seem to regret the decision
Imagine your friend's WLB at AMAZON. Compared to that he may be liking it here, but unless you will be in the same team, your work may differ, and now you have to estimate accurately what your WLB is going to be like.
What does the 'M' stand for in FAANGM? ....Meraki?
i would take it. Does the offer come with equity?
Take it and keep looking. It's wild to give up 70%
