What's a fun low stress tech company to work at?

Not trying to sound stupid, entitled, or naive here... And I know the question itself might not make all that much sense... but was wondering what other companies out there have a fun and low stress vibe to be part of. The early days of twitch was honestly really fun, and fairly low stress. But nowadays, as it feels like we are on the downturn of the funding cycle and corporate parents are cracking the whip to cut costs and force unnatural inorganic growth, I just don't feel like it's a fun place to be anymore. And was hoping to find something similar to join...

I recognize that early twitch maybe was an anomoloy, as people were passionate and friendly and tended to mostly get along. And I recognize that most companies have pressure and hard work and corporate politics and all. But just wondering if there are other companies or teams out there that have the more playful fun culture where people are really passionate about something but you're not expected to work bad hours to survive and have to worry about your job all the time.

I just feel concerned as some of the companies I thought were fun, like riot or blizzard or even discord, are apparently going through similar processes and I'm not sure if that's just a macroeconomic thing pertaining to lack of growth in the economy... Or if it's just me

:/

I work 15-20 hours per week, in at 11am, home by 2-3pm, no one gets fired unless they’re unpopular, no pressure to deliver projects, deadlines are optional and change all the time, work is assigned but no one follows up on it so I just chill and do bare minimum. We have tons of meetings with no follow up and “let’s continue this discussion later.”

Seriously the easiest job of my life, people are super friendly and nice, HQ is gorgeous, food is delicious (but healthy), and 2 week holiday shutdown fully paid. Hiring bar is super high but if you can get in then it’s amazing.

Heard they're pretty corporate actually. Basically a YouTube with very focused content.

I've always wondered about kpis at the company and how they gauge whether a video is good or not.

Ie, do you want a video a person watches for a long time so you can show more ads... Or a video that people watch and get their fix and leave... But hopefully come back again the next time?

Apparently there is, but people treat it like work. I guess the thing is, working on anything usually takes the enjoyment and fun out of it. Yeah I unno, I guess work at the end of the day is just work

Hey Ascension; they obviously know how to work it. They sell the product to as many people as they can and keep them hooked for decades in the implementation phase. It’s a win! SAP (stop all progress) is the cure to all situations; I think it inspired the ethos behind AWS Lambda. One hammer 🔨 for all your various nails! Then again, Lambda has more in production than SAP at this point I’d wager.

L7? I see people coasting at L5. In Engg. most folks at L6 are managers. Guess who stays at work late? L3 and L4 who are doing the actual work. None at L6 and above stays at work beyond 5/6 PM. This is largely true in Ads.

I think it's easy to get burnt out if you do not have the right mindset. The people working 50+ hours vs. 40 aren't necessarily working harder, just longer hours. You need to use your PTO. Use your sick time. There's no shame in it. People who get burnt out have set unrealistic expectations for themselves.
      Mar 3
    • Google indeed
How have your perf ratings been yclgn@? Doesn't your team/ manager say things like " we move fast and break things" and expect you to work at nights and weekends? If rest of the team is working late hours, there would be an implicit expectation that you do too.

That's what I've heard often from fb friends and ex colleagues who are now there. Seems like an intense place to work, and a lot of them burned out really quick. Obviously team dependent but does scare me a bit.

Also, there's this awesome. YouTube creator called Joma (Joma tech) who's working at fb, makes hilarious video series about tech life. And recently came out with a very sobering video about how he was going through depression and burnout... Which is also quite concerning

I've gotten refreshers each early review cycle and during my two promos since I was hired. If you do a good job, you'll get more refreshers, and your TC will be stable or increase
