Company A: Commute: 25-35 minutes by train with one change Salary: 55-65k Vacation: 28 days Pros: - IT security/data encryption company. There aren't that many in my town - quite chill and genuinely nice people. You got the feeling they are really that nice and supportive and not only professional nice - they are currently taking massive action to modernize the IT Cons: - equipment could be improved (we only have the choice between Dell and Mac Laptop) Summary: I got unique experience (IT security, state of the art tech stack) that I probably can't get elsewhere with chill people. But they pay could be better. Company B: Commute: 6 minutes by foot Salary: 80k Vacation: 30 days Pros: - I can see the company from my apartment - big company that can offer more and better benefits, e.g. iPhone Cons: - old IT infrastructure - they are older folks (people starting from 40 onwards) Summary: Better salary with old people (could be bad/could be good thing) and old infrastructure Both companies are in Southern Germany.
Walk to work. It's a life changer. Also - older people is not a con. It's a good thing as wlb usually better.
In Germany vacation between 25 - 30 days is the standard. I think 20 are guaranteed by law. But we got lower pay and higher taxes. I got 4 yoe. In the US I'd probably make double the amount what I make here.
It seems like you are still young and you should be eager to learn. It seems like company A gives you that chance. So go for that. Don’t look at +20k right now. Look at what company allows you to grow so that you can target +100k in the next 10 years. Obviously numbers are made up but you get the gist that at young age, look at learning opportunities and long term gains.
I'm between 35-40 already. Made a career switch at beginning of my 30s. Now trying to catch up with the folks who stayed on their path.
Ok. Since you said 4 yoe, I misunderstood.
Damn the vacation on these packages is insane tho
How many vacation days do FB folks or US Americans usually get?
10 for entry level. 15 is pretty standard. At fb we have what’s considered a generous policy. 21 days for every single employee regardless of level or seniority.
30 days of PTO. 30.
My advice would be also to think about what you want for your next job after these and how that gets you there. If you want to come to the US or work in an SV/faang type company, how do both companies strengthen your tech skills? How do they look on your resume? If you want a chill job with relatively high tc but good wlb, I’d pick B without a doubt but try to stay sharp
You sound like a young self centered millennial who is not interested in learning from experienced professionals so take the lower paying job with the longer commute to avoid the geezers. Btw I’m 60 and I find your post highly insulting, so you need some growing up to do.
Tc or gtfo gramps
TC, it is always the TC
Which company provide free avocado toast ?
