Why do people in tech hate country music so much?

I like country music like Jason Andean, Dustin Lynch, Sam Hunt and Florida Georgia line but I can’t tell my co-workers bc most of my coworkers associate country music with negative stereotypes.

With a very good reason. Just look up how and why country music got so famous.

Have you actually talked to tech workers in parts of the country where this is the dominant music?

Or are you extrapolating from anecdata from your CA experience?

Nashville country has spent the last 50 years selling God n’ Guns conservatism, it’s not at all surprising it alienates a large part of a diverse tech culture. Try something like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Old 97’s, Bottlerockets, Uncle Tupelo for broader appeal.

Doesn’t diversity mean these same conservatives are part of tech culture?

Or is your idea of diversity an exclusionary one?

Not sure what you’re going for, DuQvV7x. Even Willie and Waylon had to flee the bland conformity of Nashville. If Willie and Waylon say something is shit, I’m pretty sure it is.

If your post was on solid footing you wouldn’t have altered it.

Typically, it is because the songs aren’t relatable.

Probably true. Also possible that not experiencing country life occasionally adds to the high level of depression in the tech industry. Get outside, lose your cell phone, get chased by a bear every now and again. It's great for the soul.

“Online” is a good tech intro to Country music.

I've found is not only tech but just the majority of people in general. And I think there are many reasons. It's very repetitive, often opinionated, sings about the same things all the time, people relate it to a specific mindset or lifestyle.

The same happens with other genres with those characteristics, like punk or gangsta rap

Didn't grow up with it, music isn't too appealing versus other genres I grew up with, strong comversative political vent in the meta world around it.

Question should be why do your coworkers don’t like country music. I don’t think you have enough of a sample size for generalization.

It's the only music type I could never get to like..I listen all sorts of genres: pop, rock, punk rock, blues, metal, classic and contemporary instrumental music, you name it, but not country.
I just don't find anything catchy in music itself, neither I can relate to lyrics much.
