I have 10 years of exp in total, I have couple of development years and others primarily in consulting and product management. I would love to move back to being software engineer at Google or FB. I am planning to spend next 12 months preparing for it. My question is it worth the time and money to prepare for it? I am making around 250k TC now. How much can I earn with Google t4 or fb? I have 3 years of development experience. I have bachelors in mechanical graduated in 2008. Please , serious answers only. Thanks a lot for ur help guys, this would mean a lot to me as 12 months is a big project
Got $250k tc as L3 at G with competing offer and 2 yoe. If you perform in interviews and get competing offers you can beat your current TC.
I Don't think they count your development experience much, it's a long time ago. You might get L3 at google to T4 at facebook. Make sure you ok with that
Will probably be down leveled to L3
You might get E3 at FB or low E4
So it doesnt matter what I do at all? Like, what if I build a new website and all?
a new website or app doesn't mean shit unless you have enough users on it that you can discuss real scalability issues that you ran into. High schoolers and coding bootcamp grads can build one. Contributing to a meaty OSS project involving distributed systems or deep learning is significantly more interesting.
With such dev experience I don't think you can get more than l4 or e4. However in terms of money it can be 300TC if you perform well and have competitive offers. It is your decision to choose doing that.
Have u seen any such case at google or elsewhere? That would really motivate me to take this ride...
What is the earning ceiling in your current line of work? You should plan long term and not focus on a 50k for the short term. Your product experience might help you climb the product ladder and unlock some earning potential. For software developer based on your comments, should be only looked at as a stepping stone imo.
Have you been coding in your recent role? Do you enjoy coding? If the answer to the latter is yes, you should join one of the FAANGS. If you are purely considering this for the money, figure out how much would make you happy and then look at paysa/Glassdoor/blind and see if it is worth enduring.
Yeah, you are right in a way. I do enjoy coding but my emphasis is on money at this point though...thanks
