I am on pip and there is a good chance i will be managed out in few months. In the mean time a really great house came to the market and unless i buy it now, i will probably never find another one on that level. After making the downpayment i would have enough savings to get me through the next year and a half, in the mean time I am also exploring other roles. I live in a city with good opportunities in IT (not Sillicon Valley level, but still good) and even if i get a TC that is half my current TC i will be still able to pay off my mortgage in the long run. What would you do in my shoes? Would you buy the house?
No fckin way
Yeah just start leetcoding
Which city and what’s your current TC?
Nashville? I would suggest get a job at a stable company first. You'll find your dream home again.
No
There are going to be other fish in the sea. It’s this mindset that makes your brain shortchange things in life. This is exactly what the home seller wants you to think. It’s exactly what corporations want you to think when they give you an offer. This is also when you buy high and sell low. Then you get buyer’s remorse. Don’t fall for it.
Go for it.
Go for it. There are a million other companies.
The short answer is: no. The long one depends on what did you do to get on PIP in the first place. PIP does not always mean you’re getting fired but putting you on a performance improvement plan. Unless it is work-related (i.e., slow delivery, code quality is terrible, etc.) and you do not see yourself improving on the improvement plan set up for you, then definitely no. It is going to come out as a judgment, but you should focus on getting out of PIP, not getting in a mortgage. Your next gig will probably ask for references from your most recent company (I always do!). PIP will come out as a red flag. Don’t burn the bridges; you might have to cross back!
PIP at Amazon means you're getting fired. They would rather you leave instead of them having to deal with the hassle/unemployment.
What's a PIP?
Performance Improvement plan
performance improvement plan, basically fast track to getting fired
