I am far more qualified than both my manager and his manager. They refuse to promote me, and continually say it is a communication issue . Yet I am the one who has solved most of the major technical issues and they DM me so they can get the info and then claim it is their idea. The last straw was one of them taking over my project when I outlined a detailed technical report and was 70% done — then going to my manager and saying he did not have enough say — hence how he got the project. Meanwhile after he basically got me fired without cause — “they are keeping me around in case they need me for another month” he keeps DM’ing me asking me how to finish the firmware — uggh
Don’t respond to DMs
Give them wrong information.
Lol this is in tech?
It only happens in Tech. (OK OK not only Tech...about 70-80% in Tech) 😉
Document. Everything.
Find a lawyer and sue the company, if you are really pissed off... if not move to a different company, you will feel better. This is too stressful to handle everyday
There is nothing to sue for. Also, at least in most US states, employment is at-will
Ask for specific examples of communication issues. If they can't provide any, look for something else. You won't be able to grow if you don't get support and honest feedback. Problem is that most managers just don't know how to give feedback.
Wait — are you saying that you are the brogrammer or the brogrammers are preventing your promo?
Why did you reveal my story? (minus the firing part) I told you that in confidence bro!!! 😂
Technical expertise doesn't compensate issues in communication skills (almost not at all). Just from your story it sounds like they would rather give the floor to someone more average technically as they can collaborate better and they don't cause (people) issues in the organization. So consider that they didn't get you fired, it's more like you got yourself fired. Once you'll come to accept this, you can start learning how to grow and do better in your next workplace.
Company?
