I am working in aviation industry as a project manager in NYC with a TC of 80k. Its a 9-5 job and not really motivating or challenging. raises are almost not existant and higher manager positions are posted maybe once every 5 years...so there arent many growth possibilities. I am 30 years old and just get by in NYC because of my relative low income. I have a M.sc. in industrial engineering and 3 YOE. my goal: I would like to achieve financial indipendence in 15 years but in my current situation I wont get any closer to this goal. there are 3 ideas I currently have: 1. change career to get a high paying job (tech or finance) -what job qualification could I get the quickest with the max possible salary? Is it worth it to change careers in your early 30s? 2. change industry/company -easiest way but most likely with not the biggest impact on salary. or what do you think? what high paid project manager jobs are there in NYC? 3. concentrate on building side hustles -to reach financial indipendence I plan to have several income streams and my current job gives me the time to persue this since its only a 9-5 job. BUT with the things I have in mind, I would need to save more money which is difficult (slow) in my current situation. Any advice is highly appriciated. Thank you!
Leave NYC.
Thats a big L bruh. But there are others in the same boat. My suggestion is Leetcode as much as you can if you wanna get back to tech role. Prog manager and low income means you are not providing enough leadership skills.. may be its time to soul search and try to find if you can be that impactful leader and wanna continue there. If you can / want.. Join some leadership group or perhaps think of part time MBA .. You TC sucks big time .. and the way you are goin... it appears to be a shinking ship.. Assert yourself ..
