+100000 on running away from data infra. I can’t even begin to tell you how bad it is.

@zeroWLB any clue how is the infra / platform org?

From the job description, Infra org seems to be one where they host all cruise's backend server infra and scales them. Not sure which "platform" org this is.

That sounds like paas which curiously is part of eng prod org not infra

@dolboeb yeah. Seems like it. Is that org good? And, are they technically challenging compared to production infra?

Cause from the looks of it, it seems like the eng prod is like internal facing and hence less prestigious.

Well cruise has 0 real customers so almost everything is internal facing now. In terms of prestige everything that’s not in critical path of launch or related to security gets no love from higher ups imo.

Ep has more influential director - both data infra and prod infra directors got canned recently and they now have single director that is new to the company. Ep also seems to have more actual sw engineering than other infra teams except maybe fleet dispatch (check out cruise-automation github - majority of projects there are by ep)

Lots of interesting problems to solve. Some managers are more experienced than others, so make sure you talk to and vet/like your direct manager.
