Background: I am currently a engineering director with 11 years of total expeirience. I have a total compensation of 210K$ I am currently based out of greater boston area. I am currently preparing leetcode and system design for potential interviews (havent been selected for interviews yet) Question: Would a google pay me 300 to 350K$ for a technical program manager or a solutions manager (leading people) type role out of boston? Should i be moving to california for this type of money? Thank you.
You can get L5 with 300k+ TC. To maximize the TC move to Seattle. That would be like +20-30% on top of your hypothetical CA earnings.
Yes. Title wouldn't be director. L5 TPM or TSC
Google gave me a 400k offer (excluding joining bonus) at L5. As long as the designation doesn't matter to you.
Exclude (v): remove from consideration
Was the 400k offer as a TPM? L5?
Must be top of the band. They seems a touch high for TPM. Haven’t heard of solutions manager role in google
200k is high for TPM at google ?
He means TSC. 200k is very low for TPM
Just curious, are you an actual director? i.e. you’re the head of a department, a second or third level manager, or a lead of a high level team that reports to a VP? Or is there some title inflation?
I head a department.
yes they would. you are eating your time doing LC for a google people manager position
Reason I am prepping is, I have heard and read here - 1) googles people manager roles involve coding 2) you get technical rounds a ( coding and system design. If this is not correct , I will stop spending time re-learning coding
1) they don’t. 2) that i’m not sure. btw. tpm is not a people manager position
