So I'm 2 years into my MechE undergrad. Two great internships (Tesla and one other). I hate it and want to switch to CS. How hard would landing internships and stuff be at FAANGs and similar? Will I be able to leverage my previous experience? worried about starting from square 0 again
I can 100% tell you your mech e experience goes in trash as soon as you switch to CS. You are starting from 0 competing with freshman CS. Start early, and stop this nowhere-going worry
I had interns who were chem engr and bio engr. Both became full time swe after attending a bootcamp/coding school. Not sure if they had completed their non cs degree but who would care at that point
If you hate it, switch asap. Make sure you like cs, do some side projects to be sure and leetcode. MechE doesnβt have as many jobs as cs (huge difference)
Your previous experience in MechE won't help.
