Have an offer from a Non-FAANG company. I had applied for a role at my current level(No elevation in title). Now I have an offer in hand with 40% more TC(Cash, Guaranteed bonus + listed stocks). If I continue at my current role, I'll make it to senior in 6 months. Recruiter isn't budging for the senior title. Dilemma: Wait for a better title VS go with more TC. Long term - both the places offer similar opportunities.
TC > all. I’d gladly take the title of janitor for $2mm tc.
At FANG, titles and TC are standardized. So, title and TC go together. Should I go with better TC or wait for a better title?
Netflix only has a single title.
If it's just 6 month guaranteed promotion, and you're not against interview again in 6 month, then wait and try to defer the offer as a fail safe and try get better offer from somewhere else using you new TC at same time. If 6 months promotion is not guaranteed then go now.
Could you leverage this offer for a bump in pay and title at Microsoft?
Titles are so fucking useless. At a startup with 6 months experience? You're a "lead architect senior ninja cookie hacker".
Why did you apply? If you get the senior title, will you stay or will you also want to leave? (Depends on the answer to the previous question). Because if you'll also want to leave, then what's the point of the title anyway?
TC always. Who cares about titles when you can rule like a king with the highest TC around possible for whatever the title May be.
A hunger for title is probably a cultural thing. Cash is king and wins every time. Compare actual job responsibilities. Once the future future companies see your salary, they would know the title is meaningless.
Microsoft people and title, they are so obsessed with titles. Every time.
Sometimes title don't really line up with scope of responsible. For instance, at GE staff software is basically high L5/e4/t4 at amazon/fb/google. And staff at google is one of most senior roles. Are you sure title is compable?
