How do I get a job in Germany so I can get out of this modern day slavery aka H-1B?
    Nov 16 8
    • OP
You can just apply to a job here my dude, but they also have the whole Visa process, but it’s easy.

It's sad that people complaining about H-1B are probably part of the brain drain in their home country.

PayPal, do you even know what modern day slavery is? Google it. Hint: it has nothing to do with H1b.

Eh, apply for some job in Berlin. Germany is probably one of the easiest country to get a job in tech for your average non-EU programmer.

Btw, having US PayPal on your resume means that you're way above than the "average" that I'm alluding to.

4yoe 75k TC Munich, Germany. Why are Eurozone workers paid so much less than in US? It's not like cost of living is that much less, in some places it isn't at all..
    Nov 16 6
    • OP
I’m in Berlin. I think it’s because there’s less capital towards tech compared to the US, less competition to get into companies, and the visa process is easy so plenty of Middle East and Indian devs coming in. Most unicorns are in the US as well, so just more money in general.

Also, living expenses here are much cheaper, and there’s less expenses related to healthcare and transport.

But i like to think of savings at the end of the year and it seems to me that EU is simply not worth it for most engineers

Yeah, that’s why I want to get the NYC or the bay. I want to make a ton of money while keeping my lifestyle the same so I can save/invest/buy a house.

I have never seen someone from Munich post a salary above 75k. So why is the city so freaking expensive ? How do people on average have so much money to drive prices of everything up ?

    • Slalom Consulting / Sales StankyFeet
Oh i left slalom a couple months ago. It’s really good- they’re a unique consulting firm because they emphasize WLB and professional development, I liked it a lot. Downside is they pay less than the bigger firms like Deloitte or Accenture.

Yes, I kinda love it here and manage to save quite a lot (>1 third), since all I do is work and go out to restaurants with friends. My other hobbies do not need $.
