So I received a lower offer(94k) than my current salary. Emailed the new company: “If the company can match my current salary, I can sign today” the company: Done! we will match 98k. Went to work the next day to give my two weeks notice & they asked me my offer and countered with 102k I do like the counter but I don't know how I should tell the new company that my current company countered their offer and I want to see if the can match. Especially after I said if they match I will sign already Ideally I would love to go to the new company but I also dont wanr to leave any money on the table. I haven’t signed the offer letter yet. Any advice ? Location & Title : NY, Full Stack Engineer
Go to new company. Now that you have another offer, there is no point staying in current company (they'll pay you the new salary for a month or two then find a way to fire you) After a year in your new job, job hunt again
The counter is 4k more than your current TC or 102k more?
The counter is adding 4K to my current salary
That's so small... Take the new company offer then.
$4k is too small a difference to renege. Next time say you would sign only if 15% increase.
Not a sincere counter, tell them to match higher or fuck off :) go new company
You’ll be first one to get cut if your current company ever does a lay-off since you’ve essentially already told them you don’t want to be there. Go to the new company for a fresh start!
Personally I wouldn't take either offer. Instead prep for 2 months and then interview at 5-10 top companies and let them outbid each other. You are leaving way more than 4k on the table by only considering a single offer.
This Your leaving at least 30-40k on the table that if your a decent dev you could get
How do you make ends meet with 100k in NY? This is soooo saaaad :(
You screwed up in saying you want a salary match with new company. Should have asked for 120k. Probably no good solution now; be prepared to lose the new offer if you come back with another counter after you already agreed. Consider this a lesson learned and take the new offer. Both companies probably realize you're underpaid so the number changes are rounding errors
What city are you in? Role? YOE? Seems the new place is lowballing you if they’re so eager to just match existing salary
