What percent SignOn bonus gets tax deducted in CA?

Let's say if an offer letter says the SignOn = 50,000 on the first paycheck, what percent of it gets tax deducted and how much in hand you get on the paycheck? Is it 25% flat or more including SSN and federal etc? Tc:240k

A bonus is over 50%

Really? Why so high?

Microsoft IIeT35 Jan 30, 2019

Bonuses have an extra 25% federally alone

Microsoft IIeT35 Jan 30, 2019

The 25% is in addition to the normal withholding you set which is probably 35%

Atlassian WB2000 Jan 30, 2019

This is incorrect.

Microsoft IIeT35 Jan 31, 2019

Why is it incorrect? The normal withholding needs to be taken after the 25%

You will take home about 45%

Correct, because: 22% Federal, 10.23% California, 6.2% social, 1.45% Medicare, 1% CA SDI Also, less any 401(k) contributions obviously...

I got just under 30k post-tax from my 50k sign on.

I got 10.5k for my 20k sign on ☹️
