Not sure why this is a thing. if women get paid less than men but produce the same quality of work, wouldnt it make more sense to: 1.) hire more women instead of men? 2.) promote more women over men We live in a capitalist nation and if the wage gap is a real thing, we would see this. Instead, in silicon valley, we are constantly bombarded with messages that women are getting paid less, not getting hired over their male peers and not enough women in leadership positions. Im sure im not the only one who thinks this. Why is it then that men in tech seem to be rolling over on their backs and continue support on the idea that there is a “wage gap”?
It's not a thing. Made up
What does this even mean?
In general the arguments that I see that try to support the nominal wage gap as a meaningful kpi are about societal expectations and being pushed towards the lower paying careers while young.
I don’t think a real wage gap exists btw
Read “why men earn more” by Warren Farrell. Short version: the US bureau of labor and statistics releases studies showing the median male salary is higher than the median female salary—comparing all full time working men (plumbers, road construction, etc) with all full time working women (teachers, day care, etc) by picking the man from the dead center of the man list and comparing him with the woman from the dead center of the woman list. Feminist groups (and beta male simps) routinely pounce on these studies as proof that there is widespread pay discrepancy for males and females doing the same thing. If you repeat a lie enough it becomes the truth in enough people’s minds to change policy.
People are just posting stupid strawmen arguments. Please use some logic before spouting obviously wrong opinions. The obvious reasons why the gender wage gap is a "thing" are elaborated below: 1. During the subjective interview process, women receive lower scores for the same level of performance compared to men, leading to lower ratings and lower initial compensation packages (if they get offers at all). 2. Women tend to be less willing and able to negotiate, so the gap widens post-negotiation. 3. Due to sexism in the workplace, women receive worse performance ratings for the same level of performance, leading the company to prefer to promote men. This widens the gap even more.
I’m under the impression that under capitalist America, big corporations would value money over “being sexist”. If big corporations are aware that they can get the same quality of work, why wouldn’t they just hire more women over men to save themselves the cost of the salary they pay out?
I already answered your question below. I've cut and pasted it here: Also to answer your two questions: yes, companies are already implementing Affirmative Action strategies to do exactly those two things. This is why a lot of people on Blind are triggered about diversity.

You could also argue that weaker female candidates get more offers than the same level of male candidate due to affirmative action, thereby women in average have lower wages for the same job
I thought they were learning to see shades of grey?
