I’m an avid skiier, although my days of back country skiing and mogules are probably expired. Looking for the good life of wide open groomed trails and pounding a liter of beer in the afternoon. Always wanted to ski the alps and gonna take the family this time. Kids are complete beginners on the mountain, so alternatives to ski days is a plus (snow shoeing, ice skating, sledding, etc...), but definitely want to put them in a few all day ski schools. Wife just needs a nice village to drink wine, go to a spa, nice restaurants, shopping, and see the sights (not a skiier). So thinking switzerland is the ticket this year. Anybody been? Any recommendations? Thinking about a few days in each (Zermatt, Jungfrau, and St. Moritz). Never been to switzerland in the winter. What are the must-see destinations for a ~9 day trip? @europeans
Using the name of a season as a verb...fuck man...
Ah. Grammar sniping. Brings out the best of all of us. And it’s not used as a verb doofus. Noun + adverb + noun. A verb doesn’t have to precede an adverb.
Lol chill man. "my family summers in the Hamptons and winters in Switzerland" is the stereotype for rich motherfuckers.
I've never been to Switzerland, but I'm an avid snowboarder and been to St. Anton I the Tyrol region of Austria twice. Austria is significantly cheaper due to generally lower costs and better exchange rates. INSANE terrain and great overall scene. Folks who go out there know what they're doing, in extreme contrast to places like Lake Tahoe and the Colorado Front Range. Excellent for both wide open groomers and pounding beers at great apres ski scene. That said, I wonder how much it makes sense to take complete beginners to such epic mountains.
Thank you. Yeah. I’m debating the scope of this trip myself. Hence I want alternatives for skiing for the rest of the family. I’ll check our Austria as well. Been on my bucket list as well. More so now since availability seems to be drying up. The way it’s been evolving the last couple days is turning out to be a sight seeing trip vs a ski trip. Trying to to it scoped to a ski trip.
In Europe I see 1 snowboarder to every 50 skiiers. In North America the ratio is 50/50 lol
Try Interlaken. Very scenic.
Did Kitzbuhel in Austria and Verbier in Switzerland. Switzerland is slightly more expensive but 100% worth it imo. If you're splashing so much for a vacation might as well go all out and enjoy the Swiss alps. Would recommend Verbier -- it's a little town up on the mountains by itself with an awesome apres / ski town feel at night.
Thanks. Will definitely check it out. It’s known as a serious ski destination which makes sense to me. But nice to hear they have good apres ski town for the non skiers as well.
Zermatt
TC?
Enough to pay for a ski trip to 🇨🇭.
That ain’t saying much. Everyone around here’s got that. Be more specific
