VMware has a great policy that keeps laid off employees on payroll for 3 months. This provides visa holders sufficient time to look for another job without getting deported. Any idea if Broadcom follows something similar, or will the layoff be sudden and cruel? How did they handle this with Symantec and CA Tech? #broadcom #vmware #symantec #catech
Broadcom sent out offer letters ~ 3 weeks prior to acquisition date. Folks who didn't receive it were kept on payroll of the old company as Broadcom contractors for another few months iirc for transition.
This is the best info. Thanks. How many months were they kept on payroll? 2 months?
What were they doing? Continuing regular work and already notified to be laid off?
Not for acquisitions. My buddy from Symantec got 1 week notice and was then kicked to the curb without any help.
Was this closer to the acquisition date? How much time do you think we have before they start doing something similar with us
That's my concern. We do not know what's there in the contract. Vmware may start a massive layoff any time now before acquisition. Start looking outside immediately.
Will non dev roles like QA, devops, will also be cut?
Everything can be cut. All depends on the product and its revenue. Broadcom only like minimal resources to keep the product running without caring too much for innovation.
QA?? Broadcom will keep only those who are all rounders and can swim into any ocean. Unless your product really brings hell lot of revenue, consider QA out. A developer has to write all the code, unit test and dev ops themselves. But mostly dev ops related folks will be moved into GTO group of broadcom.

Day0->Day1 could be anywhere between 2-4months. Most of the future employees will get an offer on day 1. Most LR also this time. There will be a delta which will be Day 2 acquisition employee contracts which may burn in next 4-6 months to keep the lights on.
Not exactly sure what you mean by that. Do you mean that employees that are getting laid off will be notified that they'll be laid off in 4-6 months time? Or that they won't know anything until 4-6 months later when they'll get fired and have to leave the company within the week?
If you have good relationship with your leadership, you will always have 2-3 months time. If you don't keep grinding LC.
