I'm expecting a L3 offer from Google, India. How much should I ask based on current compensation at Microsoft? I don't have other external offers but one internal offer from Microsoft. Current status: Company: Microsoft UG: BTech 2022, from Tier-1 college Exp: 1.5 Yrs, all at Msft as L59 Base: 15LPA (promo delayed due to budget ranting😒, but strong signals for promo in May cycle this year) Stocks: 35000 USD/4 Team: I don't like the work, team product itself is less impactful. (*My on-hire RSUs have appreciated a lot in last 1.5 yrs, approx. 60-70%) Google Interview: - 3 coding rounds and 1 Googlyness round. Solved all coding questions in all rounds. Got strong positive from 3 rounds but one interviewer in a coding round downvoted with feedback that I took more time to implement solution (though I completed overall interview on time) Recruiter reached out to collect papers and asked expected compensation. How much base should and stocks should I ask? And how should I negotiate given that I don't have competing external offers and my current promo is still in line? PS: Over the phone call, recruiter tried to lowball with 18 Base and 38K USD stocks, making overall 38LPA comp. which seems pretty low. I pushed that I'll discuss compensation later after some analysis. #tech #swe #compensation #google #microsoft #sde
L3 max should be around 24 base and 60k stocks.
Any tips on negotiation please? This is my first negotiation and I don't have competing offers
Freshers get around 33k, so tell them that you need atleast 50k and base is around 18.5 for freshers so you should get 22 with your YOE. After all this negotiate for joining bonus too which could be anywhere b/w 2-5LPA. Also in Google unless you have outstanding rating/promo your increase in base will be minimal, so try to get in with as much as possible. Would've been easy to negotiate with competing offers but for now use the above argument
Coding round topics?
I joined Google in 2022 with 1YOE (all at Microsoft). My offer was 25L base, 60k stocks. I know some joined at 27L as well.
Ah you kids earning so much these days.
Ask Google to buy your unvested stocks which has appreciated in value. You can always negotiate for stocks. Take home salary part is a bit difficult to ask for.
~40L TC is possible. ~20-22L base and 50-60k stocks will be decent. Don't let the conversation go in terms of x% increase from previous because your current TC is low, tell them you expect ~40-45L TC because thats what external hires are getting in top tier companies for sde-1. Also if you have any competing offers, they'll really help.
In 2023, mine was at 24 LPA with 8Lakhs in stocks vested over 4 yrs. One thing I wanted to ask is that the recruiter is collecting feedbacks. Is you packet submitted? How much time did it take for getting the feedbacks collection to hc submission? I am in a similar situation where the recruiter is waiting for feedbacks submission.
I presume packet submission means completing with all interview rounds. Interviews are done and Recruiter scheduled a team matching call. He also mentioned that HC committee will take decision after team matching is done. Also asked my expected compensation.
L3 is sde1 in Google ?
Yes, I believe. But given that I'm less than 2yoe, sde2 doors are mostly shut at the moment (I'm a normal guy, not exceptional coder)
Ok expect Base 20 to 22 and 60k stocks, overall tc 40
