[INDIANS] Portugal’s GV or USA’s EB-5

Portugal golden visa to passport: ~€500,000. - Peaceful, no gun violence, great healthcare - Not many tech jobs USA EB-5: >$800k USD - Best TC in the world for SWE - Violent, things seem to be getting worse day by day, divisive Long-term, assuming that we (Gf and I) continue to work our tech jobs in the US on H-1 and then retire (either in US or Europe) HHTC: $500k What’s the move?

Lol ..more than 75% of people are still making less than 150k in USA and you are talking about $1.5M ?

Citrix Systems AllGasNo🚨 OP May 20, 2022

you have nothing useful to say, move on.

US eb5 anytime. Investment in regional program is back to $500,000 I believe. Salaries in Europe for the most part are way lower than US and cost of living is higher.

Google ISJp36 May 20, 2022

No, living cost is not higher. That was true 30 years ago. Portugal is much cheaper than any sensible location in the US.

Citrix Systems AllGasNo🚨 OP May 20, 2022

The regional program is not $500k. It is $800k. Even though salaries in Europe may be lower, it is mostly peaceful and citizens receive world class healthcare for free.

Why not both? You make money and have a base in US then retire in Portugal, or contract for a US company and keep your American huuuuge TC

Citrix Systems AllGasNo🚨 OP May 20, 2022

We cannot possibly spend >$2M on visas lol

Why don’t you get US green card through your employer then buy the Portuguese visa

Reckitt Benckiser SVAM67 May 20, 2022

Be prepared for racism in Portugal. Portugal is not as welcoming of immigrants as US.

New

Portuguese historically faced a lot of racism when emigrating to wealthier European countries like France

Meta bffglh May 20, 2022

unlike America, immigrants don’t get shot and workers are not left in limbo on visa (l1/h1)

Use that money for a startup in Bangalore

Microsoft vPyq50 May 20, 2022

Citrix Systems AllGasNo🚨 OP May 20, 2022

Was in same situation last year, went with Portugal GV and already have my GV approved. I think it takes around 3-4 to get EB5 GC as well, you might as well go through employer.

Citrix Systems AllGasNo🚨 OP May 20, 2022

employer GC will take 100 years for me (Indian born) how much did you invest and what did you invest in for portugal GV?

eBay zhdhjdhd May 20, 2022

Indian born here as well and waiting on US GC, if you are planning to work for few years, you can as well stick to GC with employer. I went with property route for Portugal GV, as there has been huge influx of GV applicants they have changed some GV regulations around property buying in Lisbon, Porto and coastal areas since beginning of this year.

Why can't you go to your home country and save on visa cost

Citrix Systems AllGasNo🚨 OP May 20, 2022

nationalism in my home country. corruption, religiously-driven, polluted, unsafe for women.

don't you miss your parents?

Google WCLK48 May 20, 2022

I guess it depends how old you are, family situation and etc. If you are less than 10 years away from your planned retirement I think Portugal might be a good option. Otherwise I would go to the US, grind some years, and later retire in Portugal.

Google MHxz10 May 20, 2022

If you need a salary you shouldn't really be considering such programs.

Citrix Systems AllGasNo🚨 OP May 20, 2022

Well, not really. We should be able to FIRE and then go to Portugal too.

Google MHxz10 May 20, 2022

Then do that. Choosing based on tc is inconsistent with "ready to fire". Why live in a shithole with nationalists, guns, no healthcare and women rights going to taliban standards?
