Who are these retards asking for dictatorship in India?
5 YOE, 2 months after losing job. Last year, I got a callback on 80% of my applications and passed most of my onsites. I had written offers (350-420k TC) in hand for Google, Snap, Tiktok, Cash App, and several other firms for NYC offices. The others now aren’t hiring in NYC or their recruiters ignored me when I checked with them this year. TLDR: Most companies I looked at this year don’t even have job listings available for NYC. Most applications were rejected at resume screening, and the opportunities at the final round onsites that I did pass this year or last year fell through. - Rejected/ignored at Apple, Dropbox, trading firms, Reddit, Spotify, Bloomberg, etc. - Cleared most technical screens but failed at final rounds at Palantir, MongoDB, Etsy. - Passed Snap L4 (again), but recruiter couldn’t find any team match calls and told me NYC headcount was filled. No idea when they still resume hiring for NYC. I’m seeing other people still getting L4 Snap NYC offers so wtf. - Passed Tiktok first two coding rounds (again), but recruiter told me NYC headcount was just filled and only west coast is available. - Passed Google L4 last year and went back in team matching this year, but no calls before HC result expired. Recruiter hasn’t responded regarding reinterview. - Passed Cash App (Block) L5 last year and recruiter found a new team for me this year, but the role was restructured away. I’m beyond tilted now. I’ve done all these interviews and the ones that went well ended up falling through one way or another, so I’m still unemployed. The only saving grace is that I have 300k cash saved up over the years, currently sitting in Wealthfront and 4 week treasury bills, and no visa issues (US citizen). I can afford to take the summer off, but I have 7-8k monthly living expenses (mostly rent) so I wouldn’t be comfortable staying unemployed for long. Ideally Snap gets more NYC headcount and calls me back later this summer, or I clear Google HC again and don’t mind waiting for a match knowing I have a year, but at this point I don’t know wtf to do. If all I want is just a job, Bay Area doesn’t seem to have nearly the same headcount struggles as NYC, but moving back is the last thing I’d do.
Move to the Bay Area
Like hell I will. I’ve lived there decades already
Why not? For one year or so. Easier to move within snap or Google later back to NYC.
What about hft?
rejected at trading firms. i went to a UC, don't have low level programming experience, and have a GPA barely over 3.5.
Are you a single person? Interested to hear how your monthly expenditures can be around 7-8k ?
On the high end for sure, but understandable for NYC 4k for a decent apt in Manhattan 3k for living life I’m usually around 5.5k 3k rent stabilized apt 2.5k for living life
Cuz they live in Manhattan. My monthly mortgage is less than their rent in deep queens
We just had Sr SDE join in our sister team which is based in NYC. I can check for you if you are interested? Pay not as good as FAANG tho.
Are you only applying to faang like companies?
Mostly, I got some startups reaching out to me but they pay like 160k
Join bay area or seattle and look for internal transfers later
Not an option unless they allow me to work remote from NYC
Cash App is actually fully remote
What do most of your interviews consist of at 5 YOE if you don’t mind me asking? And how are you so goated at passing them? 😳
I totally can relate! I was in NYC but layoff happened in Nov. I was interviewing full time basically for two months to stay in NYC. However, the tech job that was in NYC or remote was so limited, and not to mention many companies cancelled interviews or filled the role midway through.. eventually I gave up (on visa), and i joined a company that has mentally hurt me every single second. :)
What location?
Try Rippling/Citadel/StubHub/Asana
I’ll look into rippling, but I’ve already been resume rejected by citadel, rejected after recruiter call by stub hub, and ghosted by asana even though I cleared the on-site last year.
