Background: I received summer SWE intern offers from Apple Cupertino and Amazon NYC earlier this year and I interned at Apple. I didn't enjoy working there. No support from the team. Unhelpful mentor. No return offer for sure. About half of my fellow interns got return offers. I didn't expect the current job market this bad. I believe it is even worse than 2020. Back then, Apple was my dream company. However, regarding the location, I have decided to work in NYC and would not live in the Bay area until I get married (I'm a single male). Since Apple has very few job openings in NYC, I could only choose Apple at that time because I wanted to achieve my dream. For now, a bunch of my friends who interned at Amazon already got return offers and unlike previous years, Amazon would be the best-ever option for most current new grads this year. I'm graduating in two months. I am actively searching for a job but feel really frustrated. I just realized it was extremely hard to even get an onsite interview this year, not to mention get a decent job in NYC. It's just a rant. Wish everyone including myself can secure a job offer. #engineering #software #swe #apple #amazon #sde #new york #newgrad
But Amazon has shit culture, no?
>na Na? Not applicable? What are you saying?
Edited
Don’t worry matter, you got this, apply for amazon n give it a shot
Passed oa, waiting for the interviews but they started freeze
Apple intern who didn’t get a return offer here; are there new grad openings for swe? I don’t see any on the website.
I had an Apple interview. Interviewers seemed mostly uninterested, and unprepared for the interview. The final system design was terrible, the guy basically interrupted me at every point and started scoffing before I could even finish my sentences. If that isn’t indicative of shit culture then IDK what is. Don’t choose your workplace based off Blind memes.
I feel you. I had interviewed with multiple teams at Apple before. Apple has arrogant managers, engineers, and the worst recruiters.
I also chose Apple for the summer and yeah, not going a return wasn’t great but it helped me get a bunch of interviews and secured offers for when I graduate. Maybe your resume just needs some fine tuning?
Congrats. You are so good. I did let some engineering managers offer suggestions on my resume and edited it. It doesn't really help.
Hey what team were you interning with
You’ve got a good problem. FAANG right out of school? Stick it with Apple until you can find something when the economy gets better.
I applied for a bunch of apple roles but hardly heard back. It's too hard. Even though I get an interview from Apple, I will have to stand out among experienced candidates.
amazon hires college grads by the bus loads to replace the set from the prior year that have quit or gotten pipped. shouldn’t be too hard to get an offer from us even without an internship.
Not OP, but I’m also a former Apple intern in the same situation. I’ve not seen any new grad postings for Amazon at all; will this situation change in the near future?
Oh my Op Such a Man baby needs from company.
okay
I sympathize man. I have 1 YOE and even getting interviews is very tough right now. Granted, this is my first time applying (was promoted to SWE internally where I was working during school), but it seems much harder than I expected.
I had the exact same experience in the opposite direction. I chose Amazon over Apple for an internship and highly regret it. I had a horrible project/manager and basically had no shot getting a return offer from the beginning. I wish I went with Apple, but I guess it always just depends on the team.
