got an offer to join Square as a machine learning infrastructure engineer. what do you think of ML Infra Engineer as a career path? for growth and money? Offered TC: 275k
What level?
I could be wrong but at my company it’s kinda like just data engineering /infra work I think. (I may be missing context so take this with grain of salt)
What is your background to get the offer?

I do it and really enjoy it. There are a lot of attempts to commoditize the space but I don’t see it happening any time soon. Congrats on the offer btw
Yoe?
What is machine learning infra? Looking at job postings it sounds like a fancier term for data platform/data engineering team
In some organizations it is the same as data engineering (I’ve done this work under the DE title before), but more typically it’s a specialized form of DE, since those specializing in ML systems and plain data systems (mostly based around large scale ingestion and nothing else, while MLEs/ML infra concerns the entire model development lifecycle) have kind of split off from each other in tooling, scope, etc. There’s also the case where DEs are focused on the product data while MLEs/ML infra fare ocused solely on supporting research teams.
I see, thanks
Any good companies hiring for ml Infra/pltform roles atm?
most of the engineering work done in ML is regarding infra. Aside from being research scientist I think it’s quite good
So you mean even for MLE the work is mostly infra? Say to get model deployed?
