Idk seems legit numbers. Here’s why: the top numbers are for top candidates. For example here in apple imaging a job that is slated for ict3 to ict5. The position will be open up to ict5 top comp or they cannot hire an ict5. But they interview you and hm thinks you are ict4 max. If you all ict5 salary he’ll cut you loose. Why waste time? TLDR: the range is open but for better candidates.
In this case, Aurora created three different job positions for different levels - senior, staff and senior staff. And each position has a different base salary range posted according to the level. I applied for a specific level and feedback was positive for that. So I don't think there are any leveling issues (at least based on what the recruiter told me)
Sorry this happened. It's not a good look for aurora. Even internally, it's known that the ranges are a little ridiculous. $100k+ spreads and huge overlaps between levels. I believe they are technically accurate, but if we could see all the data I'd be willing to bet that the mean salary within any given title is well below 50% of the range. Actually being top of range is very unlikely. I'd guess that by going high end of the range, you were well above what they actually pay folks for a similar role. It wasn't an unreasonable thing for you to do, and I would've hoped that the recruiter would try to clarify things and move forward with an offer.
Thank you. These are exactly my thoughts too. Ranges are in $130k spread for the positions I considered and as you rightly said there is a huge overlap between levels.
I sense some entitlement here. The range of a job level is wide. And depend on your interview performance you may be placed with in that range. If aurora has offered you lower than the range posted than i would be surprised and find fault with aurorA. How come you assumed that you will get high end of range. Also , without any clarity on your aise of negotiation it is hard to make out if you were flexible on your ask. For ex: if you have said i expect i atleast x number then hiring manager will interpret it as hard negotiation and may back down.
Also market is bad enough and in favor of conpanies, so unless you are truly exceptional if do not see a reason company will offer anyone a top range. If you want more wait for candidate market again or get exceptional counter offers for negotiation
They are not fake, just very wide. You were offered based on where you evaluated within the level. Whether or not that was an accurate evaluation of your skill level is another question.
I think wide ranges are ok. See Netflix, job ranges are 150k to 800k. That’s because what they Dds looking to hire is someone with more than they are paid”. I wouldn’t hire an ict4 with ict3 skills and wouldn’t negotiate their pay down, that way you get unhappy employees, but I would happily hire an ict3 with ict3 skills By asking for too much you also Singhal to employers that you expect higher level. Note the hm is considering your resume against that level, and rejecting. Source: had this conversation multiple times in companies where the hm determines level:”me:X is a hire. Recruiter: X wants level 99. Me:X is no-hire for level 99”
What was the level? What did you ask for?
High end of ranges are attainable, but they match a high level of fit and skill. If you asked for the high end of the range, did you also provide a good reasoning on why that was your expectation? It’s an interview, if what your asking for doesn’t match your perceived abilities in the interviews, then they’ll pass because you’re not a good fit for culture. We don’t hire problems.
What happened? Did you get an offer that was below the lower bound of the range?
You don't need to go through all rounds and receive offer letter. Can simply ask expectations during first interview
Recruiter told me interview feedback is positive and asked my expectations. When I provided a number that is close to high end of the base salary range posted in the job description, they backed out without even negotiations. The reason they cited is my numbers are too way off from what they want to offer. It looks like they are willing to offer only the low end of the range. Overall a bad experience with the Aurora hiring process. But spoke to some really nice and talented folks during the interviews.
