All right suppose I move to a zero income tax state then after moving and establishing residency, I start working at a CA company so that my RSUs are initially granted after my residency had changed to the new zero income tax state. Will CA still try to tax my newly granted RSUs?
no
Why ask on Blind and not contact a tax professional?
I live in a no income tax state and my company is headquartered in CA but I don’t pay income taxes to CA. my location is set as remote/my state. But please contact a tax professional for a real answer.
Is your assigned office location in CA? I had this happen with NY and continued to owe them taxes so long as I was still assigned to NY despite moving. Additionally, NY wants taxes for RSU's that were partially earned in NY. Eg my year one grant was 50/50 NY/No tax state. I owe taxes to NY on half the RSU vest. I've heard CA is similar so do your research carefully.
I’ve heard similarly. Better ask this is a tax accountant, not Blind.
In CA it follows your residency
