Let alone secured an offer. Is it even worth the time of filling out the application if you don't know someone who currently works there or you aren't already in talks with a recruiter? #OpenAI
I got a phone interview after filling out an application without knowing any current employees (I knew someone who was a fellow >3 yrs ago). I f'ed up saying I didn't want to move to SF full-time. Don't do that lol.
i did, the recruiter basically said i was a joke compared to the other candidates, i agreed, then offered a front end position instead, i declined, and we wished each other well
Lmao what role did you apply for that they say youre a complete joke? Senior Skynet engineer?
nah just regular backend eng, its just that they had really impressive candidates, and im a pleb on paper also it doesnt help that these recruiters have made their career on being really prolific bait and switchers to capture desperate ppl for sre and front end positions its a tactic ive seen by the "best" recruiters at other popular companies. No hard feelings to em, just part of that line of work
I did a cold online application. Knew no one so didn't have a referral. Got an offer after all the interviews.
Wow, that’s super impressive. Did you take it? And I’m really curious to know what you think made your application stand out. I’d love to hear from someone like you who has actually cracked the process because there are OpenAI peeps on here who have said unironically that you simply can’t get in without knowing someone and that they only post open positions as a formality.
Can you please share your interview experience, sam093?
I got reached out to by OpenAI 2 weeks after filling out an online application. Have a phone screen scheduled with them.
That's amazing! Best of luck. What do you think it was about your application that stood out among the endless sea of applicants?
