Northrop Grumman Space Systems

I’m in the process of applying to NG space for multiple roles right now. I got a hit from a recruiter about a Fault Management/System Autonomy (FMSA) role. Can anyone here give me more info about it? It sounds like it’s within the systems function. It’s listed as a level 2/3 but I would be a level 2.

Can you give the req ID?

Just looked at the req, it’s actually listed as a Level 3 role. The overall req is listed as mostly a general systems engineering role, with a focus on fault management. If you have previous experience as a systems engineer and fault management sounds interesting to you, even if you’ve never done it, then I’d say go for it. Fault Management is the process of figuring out everything that could possible go wrong with a spacecraft (developing a fault tree) and then making sure the software can respond to it correctly so it doesn’t become fatal. It involves understanding the possible states and modes of the spacecraft and the limitations and constraints to operating it.

Are you a SWE or by systems function, do you mean systems engineer?

Fault Management is typically a functional role within Systems Engineering. If it’s just a T02, I’d say the actual role you are applying for doesn’t matter too much. I tend to hire for “corporate fit” vs skill set at a T02 or T03 level anyway.

yeah I meant systems engineering, sorry if that wasn’t clear
