Google: interviewed for L5 but got L4, due to hiring managers “not willing to accept L5 fully remote”. Base: 185. Stock: 800 (front loaded). Sign-on: 80 Meta: E6 Base: 250. Stock: 1.2 (25% over 4 years). Sign-on: 80 Current TC: 470 YoE: 11. 8 at Apple. 3 somewhere else. ICT4 Meta obviously beats Google in comp. But there’s WLB, career growth, and team to consider. Friends at Google are loving it there. Don’t know anyone at Meta so I can’t compare. But again, going from ICT4 to L4 seems like a demotion to me. Even though the comp is not that far off. Does anyone know the refresher for L4? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks y’all!
Easily Google.
Remote in which county?
Remote anything vs Meta
There is no functional difference on WLB, career growth, and team given the sizes of the companies listed. The factors you care about are going to be dependent on the team you choose and how well you did diligence on the team and manager before picking.
Are you a MLE?
I will chose Google full time remote. Rest and vest and work from any place you want
How high in your priorities going forward is being fully remote ? If high, I’d avoid google purely on that downgrade as a signal to how they perceive remote employees. Might be worth seeing what % of that team is currently full remote?
That stock grant for l4 seems out of range. This offer doesn’t seem real because your grant is in the l6 range. You will hit a cliff even if you promo because l4 and even l5 refreshers will not bring your comp back up given the high grant. 70k base refresh for l4 105k base refresh for l5 You would need a 300k refresher to not cliff your year 3 and that is higher than even l6 redfreshers. Promo at google is very slow.
Joining as L4 with your background and experience does seem like a demotion. Base of 185k also seems low. What’s your current base? And which org/team at Apple?
due to hiring managers “not willing to accept L5 fully remote”. This is so fake. Lol
Google is really weird about remote. They refuse to have a consistent written policy so a lot of discretion seems to be invested in individual hiring managers/directors whims and biases when it comes to remote.
It's like the speed limit, lots of flexibility. The policy is very clear, just like the speed limit. It's better this way. Most people come in less than 3 days, some not at all, just depends on the team and manager.
