Alll, someone I know well was notified today they are "out of compliance" and need to relocate to one of the following states and establish residency there to keep their current position at National Grid. All IT org that does not live in any of the following states is being notified: NY, MA, NJ, PA, CT, RI, NH, VT, & ME. Policy has changed from work anywhere since March 2020 to all IT employees are being forced to relocate and can continue working from home from in-jouridiction states as of May 1, 2024. My advice to the friend was to (1) hear what is required, (2) do the needful, & (3) wait and see what happens about days per week in office. Pls vote, share feedback, and support for my friend and the 200+ affected.
Thanks for the info
Sure thing. Not good for Griders.
Get a PO Box or a mailboxes etc box in one of those states. Mail forwarding service, bc they’ll send your important insurance and 401k stuff to that address. VPN. Don’t speak of it again.
The other option, if they’re highly valued, is for them to offer to go 1099 (contractor) and remain at the same role etc. Benefit to the company: they no longer need to pay benefits, retirement contributions etc. Friend can work from anywhere if they’re 1099 bc they’re a contractor, now the tax laws the company is trying to be compliant with don’t matter to the company.
