As a Stanford BA (Econ)/MBA grad I follow tech finance. Warren Buffett bought a 4 billion stake in TSMC. He didn’t buy any stake in Intel. But Intel is getting the 25 billion in taxpayer funds from the chips act. Why would he buy TSMC if Intel who is building fabs in Ohio using free taxpayer money? https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/11/15/investing/tsmc-shares-berkshire-hathaway-stake-hnk-intl/index.html
It's pretty simple really, intel is shit.
Intel is two generations behind tsmc in terms of fabrication process. By the time intel go to next node, tsmc will be advanced to other node.
Risk. Buffett dont want to risk that.
As a non-Stanford grad, I also follow tech finance. Thanks.
Lol, brutal
Just wait till TSMC makes a fab in the US
TSMC already building in Arizona. Apple will be sourcing some from there.
TSMC is not building its advanced chips in Arizona. That’ll be shooting Taiwan in the foot. I forgot the exact specifications of the Arizona chip, but they are lower grade. Companies that want the chips for the most advanced EVs, military equipment, and computers will still have to buy direct from Taiwan factories.
As a I did not get a Stanford BA and MBA, I saved several hundred thousand dollars on my education compared to you, yet I seem to have gotten better value for my education because I can correctly deduce that Intel is shit. Warren Buffett has a long track record of adhering to a philosophy of buying great companies at a fair price and skipping shit companies at a cheap price. I’m no GSB grad, but I’d imagine that’s what he is doing here.
GSB doesn’t give much aid for MBAs… so still a couple hundred grand to make less than a SWE…
It’s pronounced finànce
You spent all that money on a fru-fru degree and they didn't even teach you to post your TC. Better ask Leland Stanford Junior College for a refund.
TSMC has a tech lead while Intel is playing catch up
